Dil Chahta Hai (2001 )

Dil Chahta Hai is an Indian "coming of age" romance film that was written and directed by the famous Farhan Akhtar. The movie was produced by Ritesh Sidhwani. It was released under the banner of Excel Entertainment which Akhtar and Sidhwani own. The movie mainly focuses on a sort of transition period in the personal and romantic lives of three college friends. Played by Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan, and Akshaye Khanna. Preity Zinta, Sonali Kulkarni, and Dimple Kapadia also co-star in this film.

The movie was released on 10 August 2001. The film performed okayish at the box office. And Grossed over ₹397.2 million after. The movie, however, was well-received by audiences across metropolitan cities but failed among audiences in rural areas, likely so because the movie displayed a city-oriented life.

Critically, the film garnered positive views all in all. But it broke some ground by introducing a realistic perception of present-day Indian youth. The movie received several awards upon its release. Of which include the two National Film Awards and seven Filmfare Awards.

Dil Chahta Hai was practically based on Farhan Akhtar's diary detailing his trips to Mumbai and New York City. He started writing the screenplay of this movie in the year 1998. But finished it when the film's principal photography was started two years after that. It was one of the first films shot in sync with the sound with Nakul Kamte and H. Sridhar, who handled the movie's sound recording. The trio of Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy, with lyrics from Akhtar's father, Javed Akhtar also composed the soundtracks.
