3 Idiots (2009 )

3 Idiots is an Indian "coming of the age" comedy movie written, and directed by Rajkumar Hirani and co-written by Abhijat Joshi. Vidhu Vinod Chopra was the screenplay associate. This movie was a novel adaption from Chetan Bhagat's novel called "Five Point Someone". The movie had Aamir Khan, R. Madhavan, and Sharman Joshi starring in it with titular roles. This became their reunion of sorts, three years after the movie Rang De Basanti which was a hit in 2006. Omi Vaidya, Kareena Kapoor, and Boman Irani star in this movie in supporting roles. The film uses a  parallel-narration technique used in dramas, one being in the present while the other is simultaneously ten years in the past. The story narrates the friendship of three students at an Indian engineering college. It is a satire deliberately created to raise issues of social pressures. And critiques the Indian education system.

The movie received critical acclaim and was a huge commercial success soon after its release on 25 December 2009 and is considered to be among the greatest Bollywood movies ever made. It was also the highest-grossing film in its opening week in India. Eventually, it became one of the few Indian films at the time to be successful in East Asian markets such as - China and Japan. The movie also had a social impact and reflection on education in India.

It was produced by Vinod Chopra under the banner Vinod Chopra Films. 3 Idiots displayed real Indian inventions created by Remya Jose, Mohammad Idris, and Jahangir Painter.

3 Idiots managed to win six Filmfare Awards including - Best Film and three National Film Awards. The movie also won the Grand Prize at Japan's Videoyasan Awards. And it was also nominated for Best Outstanding Foreign Language Film at the Japan Academy Awards. It was also nominated for Best Foreign Film at China's Beijing International Film Festival. The film was adapted and remade in Tamil as Nanban in the year 2012.
